The effects of those characteristics on the plot and resolution of the conflict . . . .

Will and Bran are both intelligent which helped them solve the riddle to get the golden harp.  The golden harp helped them defeat the Grey King.  Will never gives up, so he is able to complete his quest.
 
 The plot is contrived because a fox changes its color to look like Bran’s dog, Cafall (pronounced Cavall). Will also has powers.
 
 Bran is credible because he is a normal boy.  Will is not credible because  he  has  powers.
